Dear Top Gardening Friends
A random selection of ideas for creating an easy gardening space to enjoy and play in.
For a relaxing and low maintenance garden why not experiment with surfaces and dividers of different kinds, such as various sizes and colours of gravel, brick, concrete, paving, stepping stones, decking, broken slate, sleepers, wooden crates, driftwood, tiles, fencing, trellises, screens, hedging, bamboo etc
Pergolas create a focus in the garden, shade in summer and support for climbing plants of many types, as well as for a hammock or swing seat. They are fun to decorate and great to sit out in. They also add height and interest.
To make a garden look longer or to add interest to a larger one, consider creating a trompe l’oeil (to deceive the eye) effect – cheap, easy and effective. This is usually a painted landscape or architectural detail and with some plants in front can look brilliant. Mirrors can also be used to add depth and interest, or try some other reflective surfaces for a different texture. If fixing a mirror make sure it is fixed securely, do not free hang a mirror or decorations that can cut or hurt anyone.
Add variety and experiment with textures and surfaces and colours. All of which can transform your space simply and easily.
Love the life you live
